The True Story Behind Gran Turismo – What Do We Know So Far?
Based on the available featurettes and trailers, the film appears to adhere closely to the extraordinary true story of Mardenborough. After becoming a fanatical player of the PlayStation game, his life took a dramatic turn when he enrolled in the GT Academy competition in 2011. The contest, designed to provide overlooked talents an opportunity to compete alongside racing elites, grants the victor a real-life racing experience. Mardenborough’s exceptional prowess led Nissan to offer him a permanent position on the team.
Academy Award-nominee Neill Blomkamp, renowned for his work on District 9 and Elysium, helms this inspiring underdog story. The screenplay is the combined effort of Academy Award-nominated writers Jason Hall (American Sniper) and Zach Baylin (King Richard). Unsurprisingly, the film is set to deliver high-octane stunts, with Mardenborough himself participating. Jacques Jouffret (The Purge: Anarchy) is the cinematographer, while Lorne Balfe (Mission: Impossible – Fallout) composes the music.
