The Flash has finally made its theater debut following numerous setbacks and high-profile disputes involving lead actor Ezra Miller. The narrative, which puts an end to the previous DC universe, adopts elements from the Flashpoint comic event where Barry Allen attempts to reboot the universe. Batman, with Michael Keaton reprising his role for the first time since Batman Returns in 1992, is a prominent figure in the film. Batman’s rich history is reflected in the assortment of gadgets and Batsuits showcased throughout the movie. Comic artist Joe Quinones contributed to the film by creating several Batsuit design concepts, and has been given the green light to share his creations on Twitter now that the movie is out.

With a track record of working on a wide array of titles for Marvel, DC, and more, including the recent Batman ’89 which introduces an alternate storyline for Keaton’s Batman post-Batman Returns, Quinones drew from the Tim Burton universe and various toy releases inspired by the films for his Batsuit designs. The suits that were most similar to the final film designs, were his laser attack, stealth jumper, aero strike, and jungle tracker Batsuits, all heavily influenced by the action figures from the 1989 Batman film and Returns, and subtly inspired by Bob Kane’s original design for Batman. While these are quite a departure from Batman’s standard outfit, they do add diversity to his repertoire. Other suit designs include an air attack suit, a scuba diving suit, and a “firebolt” Batman suit.
The film features an array of suits displayed in Keaton’s Batcave, referencing Batman’s extensive history, from comics to Keaton’s prior films and even Adam West’s famed TV role. Although none of the suits are as wildly imaginative as Quinones’, there are a few that sport extra armor and attachments, making them stand out. These designs serve as a nostalgic nod to the era when Burton’s Batman was at the peak of its popularity.

The Flash – A Treasure Trove of Easter Eggs and Cameos
Director Andy Muschietti presented Batman and DC fans with a feast of Easter Eggs in The Flash. The film prominently features Keaton’s Batman and opens with Barry teaming up with Ben Affleck’s Batman and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman before he starts time-traveling. Adam West’s Batman also makes an appearance along with a few additional surprise cameos awaiting theater-goers. According to Muschietti, despite the already dense collection of Easter Eggs, there were still several cameos left out that could have added an even zanier twist to the film.
The Flash revolves around Barry Allen using his powers to travel back in time to save his mother, only to land in a grim reality where there are no metahumans and General Zod (Michael Shannon) has returned to Earth. Barry recruits a younger version of himself and persuades a unique Batman out of retirement to restore balance, even rescuing Superman’s cousin, Supergirl (Sasha Calle) to assist. Despite mixed reviews, partly due to some questionable CGI, the film appears to be a fitting farewell to the past era of DC in cinemas, grossing $9 million in Thursday box office previews.
