The year 2023 continues to be a milestone for the adaptation of cherished comic book narratives onto the big screen. Following successes like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and less successful endeavors like The Flash and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the latest celebrated franchise to adorn cinemas will be the heroic turtles of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the forthcoming Mutant Mayhem. Alongside the opening of ticket sales for the movie, new promotional posters have been revealed and fans are encouraged to join an Early Access Fan Event to claim exclusive merchandise.
The upcoming film explores the early careers of our subterranean heroes in a refreshing interpretation of the enduring franchise. The movie marks the first cinematic appearance of the turtles since 2016’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, and presents a rejuvenated, younger approach to the title characters. The turtles are so young in fact, they haven’t yet encountered their famed adversary, Shredder. Moving away from the mammoth, surreal creatures portrayed in Michael Bay-produced Out of the Shadows and its 2014 precursor, Mutant Mayhem co-director Jeff Rowe reveals the aim of the new film was to strip the characters back to their roots, focusing more on the “teenage” aspect of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Rowe even chose actual teenagers for the main roles, stating to SFX magazine, “we wanted a teenager to watch the movie and feel seen by it and understood. That was our cornerstone for everything, like portraying the turtles as awkward and lanky, not ripped and bulky. This influenced our decision to cast actual teenagers. It’s surprising that this hasn’t been done before.” The film stars Nicolas Cantu, Brady Noon, Micah Abbey, and Shamon Brown Jr. Take a look at the just-released posters below:
