Unfortunate news for the admirers of the horror genre – the release of the upcoming Blumhouse’s horror flick, They Listen, is now delayed till August 30, 2024, making them wait a year longer.
Earlier in December, They Listen was planned to premiere on August 25, 2023. However, following a massive reshuffling of Sony’s film calendar, which led to the postponement of the Spider-villain offshoot Kraven the Hunter from this autumn to the next year, and with action megahits like Bad Boys 4 and Venom 3 planned to steal the show next summer, the much-anticipated animated follow-up, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse was completely knocked off the current schedule and was pushed back to a later date in the summer season of the following year. Nevertheless, the horror genre has recently proven its mettle at the box office, so don’t discount August as a graveyard for movies.
The Exceptional Team Behind They Listen
The storyline of They Listen remains shrouded in mystery; the only information available is that it’s yet another gripping horror thriller from the production powerhouse, Blumhouse, with a formidable creative team backing it. Chris Weitz, who holds an expansive Hollywood portfolio, will write and direct the movie. After co-directing American Pie, Down to Earth, and About a Boy with his sibling, Paul Weitz, Chris independently directed the fantasy film The Golden Compass. He later directed Twilight: New Moon and Operation Finale, and scripted Rogue One, The Mountain Between Us, and the forthcoming Gareth Roberts’ sci-fi thriller The Creator. They Listen will mark his maiden venture into horror.

The film will feature a talented cast including Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice), John Cho (Cowboy Bebop), Riki Lindhome (Knives Out), Lukita Maxwell (Shrinking), Havana Rose Liu (Bottoms), and Keith Carradine (Deadwood). The production will be handled by Weitz, Jordan Blum, and Andrew Miano; and the executive producers will include Bea Sequeira, Dan Balgoyen, Britta Rowings, and Paul Davis.
They Listen is now slated for release on August 30, 2024. Stay connected with FilmSweep for more updates and do watch FilmSweep’s interview with Chris Weitz below.

can we just have an indie film not being delayed for once? Anyway, the cast looks solid. Big fan of Katherine Waterston.
guys, its all about the quality. If they need more time to make it good, im okay with that. Better a late masterpiece than a rushed disaster, right?
