Keanu Reeves just did something so awesome, you’re going to hear a lot about it! It’s an incredible scene in John Wick: Chapter 4 where he’s moving through different rooms using this ‘dragon’s breath shotgun’ that actually sets people on fire! People are calling it one of the best action scenes they’ve ever seen, and it basically plays out like a video game—really exciting and cool. So get hyped up, because you don’t want to miss it!
Steve Weintraub, our Editor-in-Chief, interviewed Chad Stahelksi and Keanu Reeves about a scene in the movie John Wick: Chapter 4. They discussed how they wanted to make the third act of the movie more exciting. Essentially, it was just a matter of making each action sequence better compared to those before it.
“We wanted to do something special with the shots in our movie, so we decided to make a really cool camera angle from up high. Trouble was, it’s not that interesting when you just look down at the floor so our production crew started brainstorming ideas. We eventually remembered something called ‘dragon’s breath’, which is like a big mushroom cloud of fire and smoke that looks really cool. So then we came up with the idea of lighting sets with stunt people on fire, and dragon’s breath, to make it look kind of like an anime scene.”
Good news! The popular movie ‘John Wick’ is now being made into a video game so you can soon become him and have fun with nunchucks!

Reeves mentioned that it made doing the scene a lot harder than usual. Not only did he need to memorize all his moves and do them in one take, but he also had to make sure he was looking at and reacting to the right things. Only when the movie came out would people be able to see what he was seeing and reacting to!
“When I’m filming, I don’t get to see fire coming out of the guns – it’s all done in post production. But, I get to hear them go pop, pop, pop, and see the shells being ejected. And sometimes, there’s even people actually on fire! For my choreography scenes, someone would count loudly so that it matches up with the camera angles we had set up. Like this: ‘1, 2′, then I’d do my thing until they shouted ’13, 14’ and then that was the end fo a take.”
John Wick: Chapter 4 follows the story of John Wick as he searches for a way to beat the High Table’s laws and challenge one of their members in a fight. The movie features some well-known actors, such as Rina Sawayama, Ian McShane, Laurence Fishburne, Bill Skarsgard, Donnie Yen, Shamier Anderson, Natalia Tena, Hiroyuki Sanada and Lance Reddick.
