‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two’ Faces Further Delay Due to SAG Strikes
Ethan Hunt is known for his ability to outrun almost anything, just like the actor Tom Cruise who portrays him in the Mission: Impossible series. However, there’s one obstacle neither of them can escape—production delays affecting both Dead Reckoning Part One and Part Two.
The first installment of this two-part story encountered significant challenges in the past, experiencing multiple delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Fans eagerly awaited the sequel for five long years, hoping for a short one-year gap between Part One and Part Two. Unfortunately, recent events suggest that the waiting period may be further extended. Initially, the film faced a setback due to the Writers Guild of America strike, which forced writer-director Christopher McQuarrie to pause work on the script.
Now, with the SAG-AFTRA strike commencing last night, all production has come to a halt. The lead actor, Tom Cruise, along with the supporting cast including Hayley Atwell, Esai Morales, Hannah Waddingham, Simon Pegg, and Ving Rhames, will step away until the AMPTP returns to the negotiation table with acceptable terms to ensure fair and equitable financial compensation for all actors.

How Much of Dead Reckoning Part Two is Left to Film?
During the film’s premiere in Rome, Christopher McQuarrie spoke with FilmSweep’s Steve Weintraub, revealing that most of the filming was already completed, except for a major set piece.
“We’ve wrapped up shooting in all our international locations. We’ve captured the thrilling action sequences, except for the central set piece, which is the most massive and unprecedented spectacle we’ve ever created. It will undoubtedly be a sight unlike anything you’ve seen before. All the connecting scenes have been filmed, and there are surprises with new characters yet to be introduced. Additionally, there’s one action sequence involving the team, which I would describe as a sidebar adventure, that remains to be shot. It incorporates elements I’ve never worked with before and poses a significant challenge within our tight schedule. Principal photography is expected to conclude early next year.”
The release date for Dead Reckoning Part 2 is set for June 28, 2024. Stay updated on the progress of the SAG-AFTRA strike for more information.
