Ever since the 80s, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have captivated audiences worldwide, particularly on the silver screen. The iconic comic book series has given birth to six major motion pictures, with a seventh, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, set to premiere later this summer. As we eagerly await the reboot’s release in August, NECA has given us a sneak peek of their latest action figures based on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III.
The third part of TMNT’s original live-action trilogy, this 1993 epic journey was the Turtles’ final romp in the era. In an unexpected twist of events, our beloved crime-fighting heroes are sent back in time to feudal Japan, where they face down an oppressive warlord. NECA’s new seven-inch figures showcase Leonardo, Rafael, Michelangelo, and Donatello sporting the samurai outfits they donned in the movie. Priced at $150, the figures will be sold as a four-pack Convention exclusive set. Not just that, but the pack will also come packed with a pizza box filled with accessories. Expect interchangeable heads and hands, a rapier, cutlass, three time scepters, oni masks, all the famous Turtle weaponry, and fabric robes. As a nod to nostalgia, the set will be packaged in VHS inspired boxes, similar to NECA’s previously released figures from the 1990 original and Secret of the Oz. Moreover, the accessory set is designed to be compatible with other TMNT movie figures.

The Timeless Appeal of Time-Travelling Turtles
Though TMNT III, distinct from the classic game Turtles in Time, may not be the most popular installment in the franchise. It lacks some quintessential TMNT features, like the arch-villain Shredder, the foot clan, and even Casey Jones and April O’Neil were notably absent for most of the film. The movie was released during a time when violence in films was under scrutiny, so the action scenes weren’t as impressive. However, TMNT III has found longevity, particularly among adults who spent their childhood rewinding their VHS copies of the film. Home video sales proved to be its saving grace, especially given that it was launched the same year as TMNT’s final season. Even though the franchise was generally considered past its prime, the film’s unique allure has ensured it maintains its appeal, especially to those with a youthful spirit.
