New ‘Cobweb’ Sneak Peek: Cleopatra Coleman Encounters Lizzy Caplan [Exclusive]

Horror film

Cleopatra Coleman is taking her role as a stand-in teacher to new heights, much to the dismay of Lizzy Caplan, in an exclusive sneak peek for Cobweb shared with FilmSweep. Coleman’s character introduces herself as Miss Devine and presents a disturbing drawing done by Carol’s (Caplan) son, Peter (Woody Norman) during class time. The illustration is horrifying, and a clear signal that any time a child is featured in a horror film, it’s bound to be chilling. Carol is taken aback, finding it hard to believe that her son could have crafted such a menacing piece. She quickly composes herself and tells Miss Devine that Peter is just “imaginative,” a trait that keeps her and her spouse, Mark (Antony Starr), occupied throughout the night, before briskly returning to her house and closing the door on the teacher.

This peek is the newest of the ominous content we’ve witnessed emerging from Samuel Bodin’s inaugural direction for Lionsgate with Cobweb. The story revolves around a family reaching their breaking point when their young son, Peter (Norman), is persistently disturbed by tapping sounds emanating from his room walls. Combined with his nightmares, these noises interrupt Peter’s sleep, a problem initially handled delicately by his parents before they urge him to overcome his vivid imagination. As Peter’s fear amplifies, he starts doubting everyone around him, including his parents. Fortunately, his stand-in teacher Miss Devine seems to be a trustworthy figure in his life, noticing that something’s off with her student’s domestic situation.

The movie features high-profile actors such as Antony Starr from The Boys and The Covenant, Lizzy Caplan known for Party Down and Mean Girls, and Woody Norman, a BAFTA nominee for his role in 2021’s C’mon C’mon. Director Bodin is pulling out all the stops for his debut full-length feature. Chris Thomas Devlin, who is familiar with the horror genre from his work on the 2022 remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, wrote the screenplay for the film, a project previously highlighted on the 2018 Blood List and Black List, significant platforms for budding writers in the industry.

samuel bodin’s directing debut?? this sounds promising! And the Texas Chainsaw remake was pretty solid, so the script should be good.
