A24, the studio that recently won multiple Academy Awards, is now focusing on creating more successful films. According to Deadline, they have finished selecting their cast for the upcoming comedic movie Y2K which will be directed by Kyle Mooney from Saturday Night Live. They managed to get Rachel Zegler of West Side Story-fame who recently won a Golden Globe Award to take up the lead role! Joining her are Jaeden Martell and Julian Dennison from Deadpool 2.

A bunch of awesome people will star in this project, including Alicia Silverstone (The Killing of a Sacred Deer), Mason Gooding (Scream VI), Lachlan Watson (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Tim Heidecker (Us), Miles Robbins (Blockers), Fred Hechinger (Fear Street Trilogy), Daniel Zolghadri (Funny Pages) and music award-winner The Kid Laroi.

Y2K is a movie that’s similar to A24’s Bodies Bodies Bodies and has the same feel of teenage fun as Superbad. The movie takes place on New Year’s Eve 1999, when everyone was worried about what the new millennium might bring. Two high school friends (Martell & Dennison) go to the party of the year to celebrate New Year’s Eve, but things soon get way more out of control than they ever expected!

A24 is bringing the Talking Heads’ movie ‘Stop Making Sense’ to theaters again!

Zegler is a talented actress and will likely draw a lot of attention to the upcoming movie, Y2K. She made her debut in late 2021 with Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story adaptation, which was favorably received by critics and earned her a new fanbase. Since then she has stayed busy, appearing in Shazam! Fury of The Gods, an upcoming prequel The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Disney’s live-action remake Snow White, as well as Apple TV+’s computer-animated fantasy musical movie Spellbound.

Evan Winter wrote the script for Y2K and will help to produce it with Jonah Hill, Matt Dines, Ali Goodwin, and Christopher Storer. A24 company is also helping with producing this movie and covering the costs of it and distributing it.

The release date for Y2K has not been determined yet, but if you want to find more information regarding this movie check out an interview with Zegler and Lucy Liu.
