Before Russell Crowe played the exorcist Father Gabriel Amorth in The Pope’s Exorcist, he was in the movie Gladiator from 2000. The movie was created by Ridley Scott and it became popular with critics while making lots of money. People were expecting that a sequel would come out soon after.
After a long wait, plans for Gladiator 2 have recently been confirmed. Russell Crowe, who had starred as the lead in the first movie, spoke about his absence from this sequel in an interview on The Ryan Tubridy Show. According to him, the story of Gladiator 2 will be set after Maximus’s death and he won’t be part of it. Russell also praised actor Paul Mescal who was cast as the lead and hinted at how the plot would go ahead. He said that they were picking up the story with a young Lucius taking on the role of emperor which he thinks is a smart move. Lastly, Crowe mentioned that lots of people he knows are already working on making armor for the film.

Crowe won an Oscar for his role in the movie Gladiator. When looking back, he said that he does not think too much about it because it reminds him of a past when he was younger and although he loved every minute of it, it wasn’t actually like that at the time. He then talked about what appealed to him most about the project – being on a period movie set with costumes and situations, which brought great joy to him.
