In a FilmSweep Q&A session, co-director Joaquim dos Santos shared insights about the minor characters in the movie and the background of their emergence.
During the Q&A, hosted after an IMAX and FilmSweep screening of Across the Spider-Verse, De Santos informed the viewers and our Editor-in-Chief Steve Weintraub that although Madam Web’s presence in this franchise is uncertain, she will indeed appear at some point. Sony is diligently working on a spin-off featuring the character, with Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey) in the lead role. De Santos further acknowledged Spider-Man ’67 and detailed how the Spectacular Spider-Man surprise appearance transpired:

“I was a board artist on ‘The Spectacular Spider-Man’. Consequently, Josh Keaton, the voice of Spider-Man in the show, and I became friends. He also knows my wife since childhood… He was one of the lead characters in a Voltron show that I worked on. So, he was invited to participate. It’s surreal, like ‘Hey, do you want to join us and contribute to this multimillion-dollar project, or voice a character you thought you would never portray again?’ That was essentially the process. It was completely logical.”
