Emily Blunt Hopes ‘A Quiet Place 3’ Will Reunite ‘Oppenheimer’ Cast

Emily Blunt shared that plans are in motion for a possible third installment of the A Quiet Place series, although she insists that the original team be involved. Both she and the film’s director, John Krasinski, have shown interest in extending the saga and have thought up potential concepts for another sequel. She also wishes for Cillian Murphy, her co-star in both Oppenheimer and A Quiet Place, to reprise his role.

Following the remarkable success of A Quiet Place Part II, released in February 2022, Paramount revealed that a third installment had been approved with a planned 2025 premiere. Blunt confirmed that talks regarding the plot are underway, but she has a condition for her return to the franchise.

During the Oppenheimer press tour prior to the strike, Blunt disclosed that she and John Krasinski (director of A Quiet Place and her spouse) have been conceptualizing the idea of reassembling the original cast for the third sequel. Naturally, Cillian Murphy has been part of some of these conversations, given his roles in both Oppenheimer and A Quiet Place. Following A Quiet Place II, Krasinski suggested that he might step back from the directorial role for the series, but Blunt disagreed with this prospect, as she revealed to Josh Horowitz on his Happy Sad Confused podcast. She showed little interest in having someone else take the director’s seat, stating:

“Cillian [Murphy] and I were discussing with John [Krasinski] last night while enjoying some wine on a rooftop… ‘It would be great to keep this going…’ It would need to be a group endeavor. I wouldn’t want a different director if we did it again.”

Blunt and Krasinski Both Show Interest

Adding strength to this hopeful news, both Krasinski and Blunt have previously expressed their intentions to continue the story to FilmSweep. In 2020, just before the pandemic, Krasinski shared that he had already started to sketch out ideas for a third installment, suggesting he had a clear direction in mind for the film’s trajectory. Blunt added to this sentiment in a separate interview with FilmSweep in May 2021, where she hinted that Krasinski had an array of ideas for a potential third part, stating, “He has several great ideas.” She further emphasized that they had always considered this as a continuation, not a sequel, leaving ample room for additional chapters because there could never be a concrete ending for them.

A spin-off, named A Quiet Place: Day One, focusing on the first day of the invasion, has already started production. However, it’s presently paused due to ongoing strikes. The film, featuring Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, and Alex Wolff, is slated for release on March 8, 2024. Blunt and Murphy are presently in Oppenheimer, which is now playing in theaters.
