Rebecca Ferguson 'Dune: Part Two' Interview

Prepare to journey back to Arrakis as the sequel, Dune: Part Two, gears up for its theatrical release later this year. The second part of Denis Villeneuve’s blockbuster hit from 2021 will continue the intricate narratives and promises a tonal shift from its predecessor. And who better to shed light on this shift than someone closely associated with the production itself? The saga of the Atreides family is about to amplify in intensity.

FILMSWEEP VIDEO OF THE DAY

In a recent interaction with FilmSweep’s Steve Weintraub while promoting the season finale of Silo, Rebecca Ferguson provided a peek into what audiences should anticipate from Dune: Part Two:

“My excitement is through the roof right now. It’s so tremendously good. I become emotional while discussing it because I absolutely adore Denny [Villeneuve] and Greig [Fraser] and our entire team. The first part was extraordinary, grand, and magnificent, with its close-ups, imagery, and performances. But believe me, it’s nothing compared to the second part. It’s like an overwhelming emotional experience. It’s surreal.”

She further mentioned, “I haven’t watched the film yet. I’ve read the script and seen the footage. I’ve been on set even on my off-days, which I rarely do because I’m usually busy, tired, and somewhat detached. But I was curious to see the setups. I was intrigued to see Austin Butler’s performance. It’s incredible. Words fail me. The costumes, courtesy of [Jacqueline West], the character Austin brings to life, and what Christopher Walken does – it’s surreal.”

Dune: Part Two will introduce new characters, each backed by a formidable star power. Florence Pugh will portray Princess Irulan, the daughter of the oppressive Emperor in the Dune universe. Meanwhile, Austin Butler has been enlisted to play Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, the younger nephew of Baron Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgård) and the intended heir to the throne of Arrakis.

Ferguson also shared her excitement about working with the new cast members:

“Their characters play pivotal roles – emperors, princesses, ruthless killers, and more. They are indispensable in creating the spectacle that it is, and the actors portraying them are the best in the business. That’s the value they bring.”

Dune: Part Two will further trace the journey of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), a young warrior perceived as the chosen one by the Fremen. Following the loss of his home in the previous part, Paul seeks to enhance his skills to overthrow the Emperor and liberate the oppressed worlds. Simultaneously, he is driven to decipher his strange connection to Chani (Zendaya), whom he continually dreamt of before they had even met. The sequel, set to unveil mysteries and decide the fate of Arrakis, is due to hit the big screen this fall.

What Lies Ahead for Rebecca Ferguson?

Post her reprisal as Paul’s mother, Ferguson looks forward to returning to a different project. Silo, an Apple TV+ original series, explores a community confined within a solitary structure. The absence of any records narrating their history or explaining their seclusion poses a challenge to the dwellers, prompting doubt and curiosity. The first season enjoyed immense success, leading to an immediate renewal for a second season by the streaming service.
