Saddle up with Western ‘Barbie’ and Ken Funko Pop! Figures
THE OVERVIEW
Enthusiasts of Barbie have the opportunity to acquire Funko Pop! figures representing Western Barbie and Ken, as depicted in Greta Gerwig’s film adaptation. These Funko Pop! figures show off the Western attire worn by stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling when their characters enter the real world. The film has triumphed at the box office and holds the title of the top-earning live-action movie directed by a woman. More movies are on the horizon for Mattel, including one about Hot Wheels.
Collectors of Barbie now have the chance to add to their collection with Pop! figure versions of Barbie and Ken, inspired by their appearance in Gerwig’s film adaptation. Funko recently released figures of Barbie and Ken, clad in the Western outfits from the film, standing at roughly 4.3 inches tall. These figures can be ordered now on the Funko website. Within the movie, Barbie (played by Margot Robbie) and Ken (portrayed by Ryan Gosling) are dressed in Western garments after landing in the real world. The characters part ways as Barbie searches for her distressed owner Sasha (Ariana Greenblatt), thinking that her owner’s feelings are causing turmoil in Barbie Land. During this journey, Barbie discovers the challenges of being a woman in the real world, while Ken gains insights into patriarchy (and learns about horses).
Additional cast members include America Ferrera as Sasha’s mother Gloria, Michael Cera as Allan the doll, Will Ferrell as the CEO of Mattel, and Rhea Perlman as Barbie’s creator, Ruth Handler. Various other renditions of Barbie are played by Kate McKinnon and Issa Rae, while different versions of Ken are portrayed by Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, and Kingsley Ben-Adir. Since its debut in July, the movie has been a commercial success, becoming 2023’s second film to earn $1 billion, following Illumination’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie. It also achieved the distinction of being the most financially successful live-action film directed by a female director.
Mattel’s Upcoming Film Endeavors
Mattel, the toy manufacturer behind Barbie, has a lineup of future films, including one based on the Hot Wheels toy cars. The project is in collaboration with J.J. Abrams’ production company Bad Robot. Abrams stated in July, “We were in discussions with Mattel about Hot Wheels for quite a while, but we couldn’t pinpoint what would do justice to the Hot Wheels name, until we stumbled upon something… filled with emotion and grounded in reality.”
Barbie is now showing in cinemas. Both the Western Barbie and Ken Funko Pop! figures are available for purchase on Funko’s website. A preview of the film can be viewed below:

the movie was great, lots of insights into real world issues. Barbie learning about being a women was deep.
4.3 inches tall figures – they keep the same size. But Western outfits sound cool. i wonder if they’ll do other movie versions too?
