Sony Pictures Classics is set to capture your heart with its offbeat romantic comedy, Shortcomings. The first trailer has been released, teasing the tumultuous story of a couple who can barely stand each other but aren’t quite ready to let go. The film stars Justin H. Min and Ally Maki as the long-time lovers, Ben and Miko, whose relationship comes under pressure as the story unfolds.

Their journey takes a turn when Miko secures an internship in New York City, introducing the possibility of a long-distance relationship. As they grapple with the difficulties of this change, they decide to temporarily split, leading to emotional turmoil for both as they watch each other navigate single life. Unlike melodramatic epics like The Notebook or whimsical tales such as La La Land, Shortcomings anchors itself in the harsh realities of love amid significant life changes. The cast also includes Sherry Cola, playing the role of Ben’s closest ally.

Veteran actor Randall Park makes his directorial debut with Shortcomings, following a nearly two-decade acting career. Known for his role as agent Jimmy Woo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially his recent appearance in WandaVision, Park has also graced popular television comedies such as The Office and New Girl. Transitioning to directing with this poignant exploration of love’s complexities, Park promises to bring his unique charm from the small screen to the cinema.

Randall Park’s Future Projects?

Post his directorial debut, Randall Park is set to return as Jimmy Woo in The Marvels, the anticipated sequel to Captain Marvel. Given Woo’s close bond with Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), his presence seems justified as the heroes attempt to understand their unpredictable teleportation powers. With the universe at risk, it falls to Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), Monica, and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) to solve this mystery before it’s too late.
