Perri Nemiroff of FilmSweep, an ardent fan of the novel, reported that the majority of the film hit the mark, though the concluding act seemed hurried, labeling the film as a “firmly established new entrant to the cinematic series.”

Book aficionados noted some alterations that could shape the movie-watching experience, while simultaneously offering kudos to the ensemble cast.

“The Hollywood Handle” extolled the film for its depth, enhancing the Hunger Games lore, spotlighting Zegler and Blyth’s performances, and commending Peter Dinklage and Viola Davis.
