The fan-favorite romantic comedy franchise, helmed by Nia Vardalos, gears up for its third installment with My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3, scheduled to make a splash in cinemas this year on September 8. Half a dozen years since we last encountered the charismatic Portokalos family in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, the saga resumes with the family heading to Greece for a heartfelt family reunion, fulfilling the dying wish of Gus Portokalos. The film’s much-anticipated poster has now been unveiled, showcasing the return of a star-studded cast, including Nia Vardalos, John Corbett, Elena Kampouris, Lainie Kazan, Andrea Martin, Gerry Mendicino, and Maria Vacratsis.
With the departure of Michael Constantine, who played the family’s patriarch Gus in the first two movies, in 2021, Vardalos took pen to paper for the forthcoming film, receiving his blessing. As she posted on Instagram, “He told me he would not be part of the third film and his wish was for us to carry on. I tailored the screenplay to mirror Michael’s decision, and I will forever cherish his final messages to me, hoping we would start filming soon.” Honoring the deceased actor, his character’s death sets the plot in motion for the new film. The family is set to fulfill his last desire by journeying to a quaint Greek village for a family reunion.
