‘Thunderbolts’ Premiere Postponed to Summer 2025

Get ready to wait a bit longer for the much-anticipated “Thunderbolts,” as its release date has been pushed to July 25, 2025.
Initially set to be the grand finale of the MCU’s Phase 5, the movie’s release has been rescheduled due to changes in the production schedule of other projects.
Starring in “Thunderbolts” are notables such as Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, David Harbour, Olga Kurylenko, Wyatt Russell, Steven Yeun, and Ayo Edbiri.

If you had marked your calendars for the 2024 release of Thunderbolts, it’s time for a change. Following the conclusion of the SAG-AFTRA strike this morning, Disney announced a reshuffling of their upcoming releases this evening. Consequently, several films are now set for release at the end of 2024 and beyond. “Thunderbolts,” in particular, is now scheduled for a theatrical debut on July 25, 2025.

Originally, “Thunderbolts” was meant to be the climax of Phase 5 of the MCU. However, the recent victories of WGA and SAG-AFTRA have led to significant reshuffling of the production schedule for these films. Current updates on the MCU’s Disney+ plans remain under wraps, despite Bob Iger’s recent comments about them potentially weakening the MCU brand. However, it’s confirmed that “Deadpool 3” will begin production next week and is set for release on July 26, 2024, followed by “Captain America: Brave New World” on February 14, 2025. “Thunderbolts” will then make its splash in theaters that summer. “Blade,” still shrouded in much anticipation and speculation, has moved its release to November 7, 2025.

“Thunderbolts” is directed by Jake Schreier, with the screenplay by Eric Pearson of “Black Widow.” As of February, before the strikes, Sebastian Stan hadn’t yet seen the script, while Julie Louis-Dreyfus described the film as “absolutely wild.” Interestingly, Kevin Feige has stated that Bucky Barnes will lead the anti-hero team.

The plot of “Thunderbolts” remains largely under wraps, but it will feature Valentina Allegra de Fontaine’s (Louis-Dreyfus) eclectic group of superheroes. The cast includes Bucky Barnes (Stan), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), and newcomers Ayo Edebiri and Steven Yeun, whose roles are yet to be disclosed. While Baron Zemo, a central figure in the comic’s iterations of the Thunderbolts, may or may not be portrayed by Daniel Brühl following his acclaimed role in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” the film is teased to defy fan expectations.
