Aardman Addresses Clay Shortage Concerns

Aardman Animation, the creators of renowned films like Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run, has dispelled worries regarding a potential clay shortage. This comes after the closure of their primary clay supplier. To mitigate any impact, Aardman has secured a substantial clay reserve, enough for the next two years, and is actively transitioning to alternative suppliers. Fans can look forward to the Netflix release of Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget on December 15.

In light of recent speculation about a possible clay deficit, Aardman Animation has stepped forward to reassure its audience. The studio was thought to be facing a crisis after Newclay Products, known for its specialized clay, ceased operations earlier in 2023. Aardman subsequently acquired a significant portion of the remaining stock.

Valerie Dearing from Newclay Products commented, “Aardman purchased a considerable amount of our last Newplast stock, sufficient for two years. The total was about 40 boxes, roughly 400 kg.” Aardman has since addressed this issue on social media, calming fans by confirming their preparations for a seamless shift to new clay sources.

The company stated, “Concerns about the fate of our cherished clay characters have deeply moved us, but rest assured, there’s no cause for alarm. Our current and upcoming productions are well-supplied with modelling clay. Like Wallace in his lab, we’ve been proactively working to ensure a seamless changeover to new clay supplies, allowing us to continue crafting our beloved shows.”
