M.O.D.O.K Trades Quantum Realm for San Diego Comic Con with Latest Funko Pop

M.O.D.O.K Funko Pop

The excitement for the upcoming San Diego Comic Con is building up. Over the recent weeks, several top-tier brands have been unveiling their exclusive SDCC product range. Among them is Funko, known for its ever-growing Pop line, who recently introduced a SDCC-exclusive Pop of M.O.D.O.K from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

This latest Funko Pop bears striking similarities to its predecessor from the original Quantumania line, with one significant exception. M.O.D.O.K’s magnificently enormous face is visible, primed to assist Kang in his efforts to leave the quantum realm. The prior M.O.D.O.K Pop came with a menacing face shield, which kept the identity of this character iteration under wraps as it was one of the major surprises in Quantumania. The initial Quantumania Pop collection also featured Ant-Man, Wasp, Kang, and Cassie, who was exclusive to the Marvel Collector Corps Box.

Quantumania’s Challenging Start to Phase 5

Quantumania’s initial box office success was undermined by unfavorable reviews and audience response, cutting short any potential financial momentum. The film, starring Paul Rudd’s endearing Ant-Man, was an enjoyable sci-fi adventure but fell short of the explosive introduction to Kang’s new MCU era that Marvel had teased. This was largely because Ant-Man was perhaps not the best choice to spearhead this Avengers’ level narrative. The film oscillated between clashing ideas and moods, with a handful of remarkable scenes that managed to divert audiences’ attention from the frequent use of green screen.

Undoubtedly, one of the film’s highlights was the debut of the notorious villain M.O.D.O.K, portrayed by Corey Stoll. Stoll reprised his role as the primary antagonist from the original Ant-Man, Darren Cross. After his defeat, Cross was drawn into the quantum realm, emerging as the horrifying entity known as M.O.D.O.K. He served as Kang’s deputy and the film’s main source of humor. M.O.D.O.K also underwent one of the movie’s significant character developments as he ultimately betrayed Kang, sacrificing himself to aid the heroes in saving the day. Marvel fans learned a humorous lesson: “it’s never too late to stop being a jerk.”

When is SDCC?

SDCC will be held at the San Diego Convention Center from Thursday, July 20 to Sunday, July 23, 2023. M.O.D.O.K will be available at several Funko stalls and will soon be open for pre-order on the company’s website.

i’ll be honest, Ant-Man could’ve done better. But the Funkos, though, those are always a win, aren’t they? 😉
