At the Austin Film Festival panel, Pizzolatto spilled the beans about this dream alliance, hinting that the wheels of this cinematic project are already turning.

The story goes that Blumhouse tested the waters with Pizzolatto, tempting him with the prospects of full-length horror storytelling. “Blumhouse roped me in to craft and direct this horror piece, and I’ve just handed them the script last week,” Pizzolatto shared. Reflecting on his initial rendezvous with the Blumhouse team, he recounted,

Our meeting was pretty chill, just shooting the breeze, finding out we knew some of the same people. As we were about to call it a day, Couper [Samuelson], Blumhouse’s VP, throws this at me, ‘Hey, if you’ve got a spark for a horror movie…’ And I’m like, ‘Well, I’ve been sitting on this one idea for a decade,’ and once I laid it out for him, he was all in. Now, it’s all about what they think of my script, but fingers crossed, we’ll get the ball rolling.

Pizzolatto is keeping the lid on the plot’s specifics. Yet, he teases us with, “It’s akin to an occult detective tale.” Cue the déjà vu for fans, as it harkens back to True Detective’s first season, where Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson played detectives ensnared in a chilling hunt for a ritualistic killer, stretching their sanity to its limits. Pizzolatto, who has lent his writing chops to The Magnificent Seven and the highly anticipated MCU entry, Blade, is once again stepping into a world where the esoteric and the criminal collide.

Absolutely! The anthology continues with True Detective: Night Country, featuring another lineup of illustrious stars akin to previous seasons’ roster, including Harrelson, McConaughey, Colin Farrell, and Mahershala Ali.
