“In crafting this unique entity, Emma channels an instinctive energy that’s totally novel,” he shared with Empire. “At times, she’d question, ‘Am I on the right track? Is this even working?’ To which I sometimes found myself equally uncertain, leading us to explore various possibilities,” he elaborated. “To be frank, I’m in awe of her,” praised Lanthimos. “During the post-production phase, I’d occasionally text her, saying, ‘Your work is truly amazing. How do you do this? It’s like magic.'” According to Stone, the constructive exchange with Lanthimos helped her mold the character. “Our constant collaboration was instrumental. I could always count on him for guidance,” Stone revealed about her partnership with Lanthimos.
The pair previously teamed up for the critically lauded ‘The Favourite’ in 2018.
