Taylor Swift Joins the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences

Grammy Award-winning singer Taylor Swift has added another achievement to her already impressive career by becoming an official member of the prestigious Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. Swift, who made her directorial debut with the short film “All Too Well” in 2021, has plans to direct a full-length feature film following her world tour. Variety reports that the Academy has welcomed approximately 400 new members, including remarkable individuals from the industry, who will have the opportunity to vote in next year’s Academy Award selection process. Among the notable names joining Swift are Paul Mescal, Keke Palmer, and Joseph Kosinski. After showcasing their talents on the big screen last year, they all deserve recognition as new members of the Academy.

In addition to Swift, actor Bill Hader has also joined the class of 2023. Hader has been busy working on the final season of the critically acclaimed series “Barry.” After four seasons of portraying a former marine turned assassin for hire, the character Barry (played by Hader himself) must now face the consequences of his actions. In a series of unfortunate events, he coerces the vulnerable Sally (Sarah Goldberg) into running away and starting a family with him, while his former acting teacher, Mr. Cousineau (Henry Winkler), flees the country to escape him. However, the characters were never destined for a happy ending as long as they remained entangled in Barry’s web.

Following the remarkable impact of “Everything Everywhere All At Once” in the industry last year, two of its main cast members, Ke Huy Quan and Stephanie Hsu, have also been invited to join the ranks of the Academy. Their inclusion further solidifies their relationship with the organization, as they received multiple nominations at this year’s Academy Awards ceremony. Additionally, director Daniel Kwan, one of the creative minds behind the exhilarating feature, has been extended an invitation to become a member of the AMPAS. These additions come as no surprise considering the numerous nominations and wins garnered by the heartfelt adventure through the multiverse.

Austin Butler Makes his Entrance

Another artist who captivated audiences during this year’s ceremony, but was not previously a member of the Academy, is Austin Butler. His portrayal of the “King of Rock and Roll” in the film “Elvis” earned him a nomination in the Best Actor category, and while he didn’t take home the award, he won the hearts of viewers with his voice, dance moves, and emotional performance. The enigmatic star will grace the big screen once again in the upcoming release of “Dune: Part Two” later this year. The sequel to one of 2021’s biggest blockbusters is set to elevate the expectations for what can be achieved on Arrakis.
