‘The Little Mermaid’ Makes a Splash with a Summer Digital Release Date

Immerse yourself in one of the biggest hits of the summer as ‘The Little Mermaid’ becomes available for purchase on digital platforms starting July 25. Fans can also look forward to the release of the movie on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD on September 19. Rob Marshall’s adaptation of the beloved 1989 animated classic made a significant impact when it premiered on the silver screen in May, with Halle Bailey’s captivating performance as Ariel capturing the audience’s attention. As the young princess experiences love for the first time, she must navigate the dangers posed by a malevolent figure from her past who seeks to exploit her innocence.

In the tradition of the animated Disney classic, Ariel is a young princess with an insatiable curiosity about the human world. However, due to her mother’s tragic demise linked to humans, King Triton (played by Javier Bardem) forbids Ariel from venturing onto the land above the sea. Frustrated by this restriction, the mermaid seeks alternative means to learn about the fascinating world of humans and finds herself drawn to her wicked aunt, Ursula (portrayed by Melissa McCarthy). Ursula presents Ariel with an irresistible offer: the chance to explore the human world for three days in exchange for her voice.

But Ariel’s longing to explore the world above extends beyond mere forks and shoes. Her true desire is rooted in her love for Prince Eric (played by Jonah Hauer-King), whom she saved from a sinking ship. Without her voice, Ariel enlists the help of Sebastian (Daveed Diggs) and Scuttle (Awkwafina) to devise a plan that will make Eric reciprocate her feelings. Through dancing, playing, and embarking on adventures together, the couple discovers happiness in their shared experiences.
