Subsequently, the series was rebooted with 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man, starring Andrew Garfield. After a hiatus of over a decade, Maguire was prepared to return to his role in No Way Home. On receiving the call, Maguire said, “I was like, ‘At last!’ I just feel thankful – I was eager and ready to take up this role,”. “Of course, I was nervous! But getting the opportunity to collaborate with such skilled and creative individuals is a definitive ‘yes’ for me.”
In the movie, Maguire’s Spider-Man teamed up with both Garfield’s and Holland’s versions. “Working with Andrew [Garfield] and Tom [Holland] was a cherished experience – very enriching in every sense,” Maguire remarked. “It essentially reignited my passion for acting. It felt like a true brotherhood, which was what we aimed to reflect in the characters as well. The real-life connections and love for these guys, coupled with the fun and laughter, were all stimulating and revitalizing for me.” As the senior Spider-Man, Maguire’s Peter played the mentor to his two successors in the film. For Holland’s Spidey, Maguire’s Peter steered him away from the path of darkness and vengeance against the Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) for Aunt May’s (Marisa Tomei) death. Maguire’s Peter also gave hope to Garfield’s version about finding love again, as Garfield’s Peter was still grieving over the loss of Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) from 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

While numerous fans hope that Maguire will reprise his role as Peter Parker in a Spider-Man 4 or another MCU film, he did feature in the latest Spider-Man film. In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, scenes of Maguire’s Peter Parker from 2002’s Spider-Man were shown while Miguel O’Hara (Oscar Issac) was elucidating canon events to Miles Morales (Shameik Moore).
