Lee Cronin, who is the maker of Evil Dead Rise (the fifth movie in the Evil Dead series), has been asked to make another film! Hollywood Reporter reports that he will be making a new scary movie called Thaw for New Line Studios.

Cronin will be the one to change and improve the movie script written by Jeremy Passmore. This movie is about some people who are trying to find a safe place to live since the polar ice caps have melted. They find a town and then discover something dangerous hidden below its waters.

Passmore wrote a script called Thaw and sold it to Gunpowder & Sky who made a horror series about stories from 50 states called 50 States of Fright. Interestingly, Cronin wrote an episode for this same show. Also, Passmore worked with New Line on Dwayne Johnson’s San Andreas movie and co-wrote the 2012 remake of Red Dawn.

Von Toffler and David Gale of Gunpowder & Sky will be making a new movie called Thaw. Adam Goldworm, who made the good drama My Friend Dahmer, is in charge of producing it. He is also involved with creating Final Girl Support Group at HBO.

The movie Evil Dead Rise did a great job at this year’s SXSW (a film festival). This made the director, Cronin, so popular that New Line offered him a job for his new film Thaw. Cronin had already been making short films before this like Ghost Train which won an award called Melies d’Argent – an award given to the best European short film.

In 2019, Lee Cronin’s first movie called The Hole In The Ground premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was well-received by critics. It was released by A24 and won him a Saturn nomination for best new director. He also has two episodes of an Irish comedy show called The Masterplan under his belt.

At first, people wanted Evil Dead Rise to be released on HBO Max but it became so popular after a test screening and trailer showing at CineEurope that it got switched to hit the movie theatres instead. It comes out April 21st and has an incredible score of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes! You can watch the red band trailer for Evil Dead Rise if you want to see what all the hype is about.
