The Legacy of Willow Continues

The sequel series to Willow was launched on Disney+ in November 2022 and concluded in January 2023. Set years after Queen Bavmorda’s downfall, the series followed a new band of heroes battling their inner demons to save their world. Despite not matching the cultural footprint of the original, it was met with mixed reviews. Concurrently, Disney was evaluating its IPs like Lucasfilm and Marvel Studios, leading to speculations that the series got entangled in the shifting strategies.

However, series creator Jon Kasdan clarified that the decision was taken to let the actors explore other opportunities. In a Twitter statement, he explained, “With all the TV shows and films being produced globally, it seems unfair to restrict an actor’s availability without a concrete plan of when they’ll be needed again.” He further added, “This point is further emphasized by the fact that the scripts we’re developing require just as many actors from our first season, for whom no such contractual hold exists.”

Willow is currently streaming on Disney+, and fans can purchase the new Willow Funko Pop! figures from Funko’s website.
