Producer Jon Landau has confirmed that there will be two characters from Avatar: The Way of Water returning for the third movie in this franchise. One of them is called Tulkun Payakan (played by Kevin Dorman), and fans are sure to be excited about this news!
Landau announced that Payakan is set to make a comeback in the upcoming third Avatar movie due to the great response he got in the sequel. He compared the relationship between Payakan and Na’vi Lo’ak (Britain Dalton), son of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) with that of a boy and his pet dog because both of them are outcasts who need each other. When Landau first created Payakan, he didn’t believe people would like him, so he and his team worked hard to show how important this character was. But due to fans being impressed with him, it was made sure that Payakan will return for the next film and even got noticed when asking people about their favourite characters from previous movies.
Payakan was first featured in Avatar: The Way of Water. Before the events of the film, Payakan got kicked out by his Tulkun family – an intelligent ocean-dwelling species like whales – for doing something he shouldn’t have; hurting humans who were hunting them. In the movie, Payakan becomes friends with Lo’ak and saves him from a dangerous fish called Anukla. Later on, he steps in to help protect Lo’ak’s family from RDA hunters, again by being violent towards one of them named Mick Scoresby (played by Brendan Cowell). It’s not revealed what will happen to Payakan in the next movie yet, but it looks like his future with Tulkun will be explored more.
The movie ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ just became the highest-grossing domestic film of all time. It has earned more than $674.6 million which is more than what ‘Titanic’ made!
Revenge is in the Air
Payakan from Avatar: The Way of Water will not be the only one appearing in the third movie. His enemy, Scoresby, will also appear. Even though Payakan had attacked Scoresby, he has survived and is back to take revenge on Payakan and his friends. There are currently two movies out and three more planned for release in the next few years.
The Avatar movie series began in 2009 with the release of Avatar, which is about Jake Sully (Worthington) and his relationship with Na’vi (Saldana). The second film, Avatar: The Way of Water was released last year. In this movie, Jake and Neytiri had to leave their home in the forest because of an incoming war. Director James Cameron revealed there will be a third movie that will show the introduction of special Na’vi called “Ash People”, who have fire powers. This movie has many stars like Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, Kate Winslet and Sigourney Weaver among many others.
